In the 1920s Americans were changing the way they thought about cleanliness due to discoveries in medicine and most notably the advancement of vaccines. This did not go unnoticed by ceramic manufacturers and the "sanitary" look became very popular. White tile, white porcelain, and white fixtures was the choice of the day back then.
I don't know if white ever really went out of style and today we have noticed a strong interest in white kitchen and bathroom lighting fixtures. Here is one example. A square white porcelain ceiling fitter with a rounded milk glass globe attached. The ribs on the ceiling fitter are picked up in the ribbing of the globe and the band around the bottom of the ceiling fitter is visually the same size as the ribbed band around the globe. Enough interest for any contemporary home.
Height: 10 1/2 inches
Width: 8 1/2 inches
Width of top of ceiling fitter: 5 inches
